We use cutting edge equipment in order to asses home/building energy ratings. Through use of the blower door and duct leakage tester, ECSG quantifies the amount of air leakage you have and then assists in locating the areas of leakage. The REMRate software then takes these values and others to develop a complete energy picture of the home/building.
We use the blower door to depressurize the home/building, and then measure the difference in air pressure between the inside and outside of the structure. The difference in values determines how much conditioned air is escaping the home/building every 24 hours. The escape of the conditioned air represents a hard cost to the building/home owner as the conditioned air is replaced by unconditioned air, which is unfiltered and can contain harmful products that place home/building occupants at risk.
Some of the harmful products contained by the unconditioned air may include:
- Noxious gases including carbon monoxide or volatile chemicals
- Allergy/asthma inducing irritants including mold or mildew
- Waste products from vermin or pests
- Plant pollen
We also use the blower door along with an infrared camera to evaluate areas where energy is being lost and to perform zone pressure tests in order to asses the areas of the home/building where the greatest amount of leakage is occurring. Energy leaks often take non-linear paths into a home /building. These paths often run along electrical wiring routes, plumbing stacks, and other openings due to poor construction techniques or settling. As such, ESCG relies on the blower door in order to maintain the home/building at a constant pressure and examines the area for leaks.
